Speech in Noise (SIN) Test
What is the Speech in Noise (SIN) Test?
The SIN test evaluates how well a person can understand speech when background noise is present. It aims to determine one’s ability to differentiate between important sounds (like speech) and distracting sounds (like noise).
The results will provide a Speech Recognition Threshold (SRT) based on varying levels of background noise compared to the speech signal.
Unlike traditional tone audiometry, which focuses on detecting specific pitches, the SIN test assesses higher-level auditory processing. It requires hearing, sorting, and comprehending information to identify what is useful.
This test is an important step in understanding your hearing abilities and how you can effectively communicate in noisy situations.
